Romy Janssens is a consultant at Solid Professionals and joined ING's Global Services division in August 2019.
Global services provides Risk and Finance related services to various stakeholders. I am working in the circle STP (Straight-Through Processing) and I am part of the Financial Reporting team. We are responsible for providing accounting services to a large number of Business Partners, including dozens of ING locations worldwide and Group Finance.
My team was dealing with large numbers of manually filled Excel sheets (UDAs), a lot of overtime during the quarterly closing and a significant control deficiency from the regulator.
The goal is to automate and outsource 50 to 60% of the current work. This will allow the teams in Amsterdam to focus on the qualitative aspects of the products and services towards the customer and will create a so-called ''Centre of Excellence''.
Besides the monthly and quarterly closing, we work on writing requirements and testing the automated memo output delivered by the Tribes. Because a large part of the monthly closing work eventually goes to Manila, we provide trainings to our colleagues over there. Because the focus is on automation, sourcing and continuous improvement, process management is crucial. Processes must be known, managed and improved.
In the coming months, in addition to the above activities, I will be working on improving the current processes. I have recently completed the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training and will apply this knowledge in practice. I believe that a combination of Accounting/Reporting and Lean really make the difference. A number of processes are outdated and no longer work in the most efficient and effective way. I hope that I can get my internal ING colleagues on board and make them want to keep improving in the future.
